How Veil Saved My Wedding Day

This is a story of a veil i originally wasn't going to get and about unexpected things that can happen. Yeah i was all against getting a veil for my wedding, but then i just fall in love with one particular and  just couldn't stop thinking of it. And in the end i got it. Now i wonder if somehow i had some 6th sense which told me that i need a veil, really needed one...  Pictures of my veil can be seen here.

We took our official wedding photos on 6th of jun 2012 while our wedding was on 9th of jun. It was the most smart decision i could think off, to take photos before hand and not stress about them on the wedding day ( will write about this more later). Wedding photos were taken in our local beautiful park. The weather was bad in the morning and we even thought that there will be no way that any photos would be possible to take outside. Really looked like it would rain and was kinda cold. So it never even came to my mind to think about possible mosquitoes.......

Photos were supposed to be taken at 6pm as that is the time when the light is the most beautiful. And how happy we were when around 5.30 pm clouds moved and sun came out. So we decided to take photos in the park like originally was planned. Like you probably guessed already where was the sun there were mosquitoes as well.... I got bites all over my hands, my back and my chest.... Luckily no bites on my face. I tried all the medicine they had at the pharmacist and nothing helped.... I thought of many things that could go wrong on my wedding day, but somehow mosquito bites never came to my mind :)

On my wedding day my fantastic makeup artist at Wellhottaret salon was trying all the best she could to cover the bites while my hair was done. But of course she couldn't take the swelling away... That is where my veil became a life savior! It hide just right spots : my shoulders and my back! My veil saved my wedding day ! <3 

Suprisingly i didn't stress about the bites, swellings, or anything else.. I got married to a man i love and our official wedding photos allready were done with me still looking my best :D

So future brides and their bridesmaids here are couple of things for you to learn from my experience:

1. No matter what weather it is outside take with you anything that can drive away mosquitoes. Especially if your photos are taken somewhere in the park, near lake and or other mosquito favorite places.
2. Even if you are 100% sure you don't want to cover your shoulders on your wedding day.. Do get something with which you can as you never know what can happen and you do not want to be running around city and searching for something on your wedding day or a day before.

My Lace Border Wedding Veil

"I will not have a veil." I had this thought for as long as i can remember. Don't understand me wrong, i did like the veils on other brides but i just couldn't see myself wearing one. I thought i would simply look like wearing a curtain over my head haha So think how surprised i was when trying out my wedding dress i saw a veil i felt like wanting to try on. I put this veil on and something happened , i simply fall i love with it and i knew i would have one on my wedding day. Yes it was that simple. I didn't buy that veil on that day ( i still needed to think how could i change my opinion about veils so suddenly), but few month later i did came back... and the veil, same veil i tried few month earlier came back home with me! Welcome home baby! <3

When i saw how beautifully staff of  the bridal store ( Morsiusatelje Katariina ) packaged my veil i felt like they were giving me a gift and not me simply paying for one. Haha, i was jumping up and down, literally, like a little kid on a Christmas eve :D

 My veil was steam ironed and put in a lovely box cowered in silk paper with a silk ribbon <3

Close up of the lace design on my veil. Isn't it beautiful ? It has some sparkles as well, enough to make it look stunning but settle enough to keep it timeless and elegant.

I won't be showing my veil with the whole length as it is so nicely packaged right now. But i will be posting some more photos of it on my wedding day ! <3

We don't have any wedding traditions in my family. So i kinda hope that maybe this veil could become one. It is fantastic quality, with elegant design. So maybe, just maybe my sisters would want to wear it after me and start our own tradition. I think this veil deserve it! :)

Wedding Veils : a Veil with Blusher

Like i promised i am continuing to introduce more of the veils for you to choose from. I'm thinking to go from shortest to longest, so this time i will show you some of the blusher veils. Blusher veils are usually very short in length and made with only one layer of material. This style of veil is used to cover the face prior to the ceremony, and falls just below the chin. It can be worn with virtually any style of dress. Brides usually are not wearing blusher over the face for entire wedding and it is usually lifted at some point dooring the wedding ceremony. Here are some usual moments when blusher can be removed :

1)  The most common tradition is for the father to lift the veil thereby reveling or presenting her to the groom.

2)  Another tradition is to leave the blusher down until it is time for the groom to kiss his bride.

3)  A new tradition is to have the groom unveil his bride after the father presents his daughter to him

I personally not sure about using a blusher myself or at least having it at any point over my face, but bride can change her mind if needed wasn't it so ? And sure thing i've been changing my mind a LOT :)

Wedding Veils: a Birdcage Veil

I honestly never thought  that i would ever like veils, any kind of veils. For years and years i had an opinion that every veil looked like a curtain taken from the window :) But i guess getting married myself and getting older affect my opinions, suddenly i love veils and the bridal feeling in them. Veils can be different, you are the one who will decide which one is perfect for you. My agenda is to go through all the different styles of veils i can find and help you choose something you might like. And of course i will show which style i chosen for my own wedding as well. Lower picture shows few different veil length. Picture doesn't show all the styles that exist, but still gives some idea on what possibilities we brides have. 

When you think about veils, think of them as the perfect accessory that will help you to achieve the bridal look you really want. Same dress can have totally different feeling in it depending on the veil style you choose. Super long veil will give you a Cinderella feeling while short birdcage veil will give you a vintage look.

I will start with fantastic 50's inspired birdcage veils. Birdcage veils have a vintage look and are designed to frame the face. You might wonder why isn't it simply called a blusher? But from what I've seen so far, those two have different feeling, different look and even different purpose. If birdcage veil is made for framing your face and actually is meant to be worn on your face for the whole wedding day, the blusher is meant to cover the bride's face as she enters the wedding ceremony and usually attached to a longer veil on the back. Blusher is pushed back after wedding ceremony as well. I will be introducing you to the blusher veils in my next post.

So when will the birdcage veil look good? Birdcage veils will look perfect with short swing, wiggle and elegant long dresses. When you want to look less traditional or want to achieve more modern or vintage feeling to your bridal look. There are numerous amount of different birdcage veils, some will hide more of your face and some will only frame it. They can have flowers, jewelry, feathers or even little hat attached to them. Birdcage veil can be made of French, Russian, or English netting. The size of the squares in the netting is what differentiates the three types, with French being the tightest weave wguke the English being the largest.

Birdcage is good option not only for the bride, but for the bride's and groom's mothers and bridesmaids as well.
